Storm Damage Services
Storm Damage Inspection
Some storm damage is obvious. Much of it is not. We inspect your roof, siding and other exterior surfaces for signs of wind, hail and impact damage and document what we find.
Roofing & Siding Damage
Storms do not stop at your roof. Hail and wind can also damage siding, gutters, fascia, vents and window trim. We look at the entire exterior to understand what the storm actually affected.
Insurance Claim Assistance
If we find damage that may justify an insurance claim, we help document it, explain the process and work with your insurance adjuster so you are not trying to navigate the claim alone.

Storm Damage Inspection
Damage You Can’t See May Matter Most
After a strong Central Ohio storm, most homeowners take a look at their roof. If there is no tree across the house or a large section of shingles missing, it can be easy to assume everything is fine.
Warren says that is what makes storm damage difficult to spot “Some storm damage is obvious. For example, you have a branch or a tree laying on the house or shingles missing. But many times, storm damage is not always visible to an owner. You just can’t always see it from the ground.”
Wind can lift a shingle, tear or weaken it, and then settle back into place after the storm. From the driveway, the roof may look completely normal.
Hail can be harder to evaluate as well. An experienced roofer knows where to look for impact marks on shingles and dents in softer metal surfaces, including roof vents, plumbing boots, drip edge, gutters, and window trim.
If you have reason to believe a significant storm has affected your home, Warren recommends having a qualified roofer inspect the property. A closer look can help you understand whether there is damage and what needs to be done.
What To Do After A Storm
Start With an Inspection, Not an Insurance Claim
The first step is finding out whether your home actually has storm damage.
Warren does not believe every storm should lead to an insurance claim. As he puts it, “I’m not going to waste your time if I don’t think there’s damage.”
We inspect the roof and exterior first. If we do not find evidence of storm damage, we will tell you. If we do find damage, we photograph and document what we see and explain what we recommend for your next steps.
That gives the owner the information needed to make decisions about repairs, replacement, or an insurance claim.
What We Look for After a Storm
- Missing, lifted, torn or creased shingles
- Hail impacts and soft spots on roofing materials
- Damage from branches or flying debris
- Dents in vents, gutters, fascia and other metal surfaces
- Cracked, dented or damaged siding
- Damage around windows, trim, skylights and roof penetrations
- Signs of water intrusion or developing leaks

Roofing & Siding Storm Damage
One Storm Can Damage More Than Your Roof
When hail or high winds move through your neighborhood, the roof usually gets the most attention. But a storm can affect other parts of your home too.
Warren has seen hail damage on gutters, fascia, siding, window trim, vents, and other exterior materials. Those areas can also provide important clues about what happened during a storm.
One homeowner thought the damage was limited to a single missing shingle and two holes in the siding. After the property was evaluated and the insurance process was completed, the claim covered replacement of both the roof and siding, with the homeowner responsible for the applicable deductible.
That does not mean every missing shingle requires for a new roof and Warren cautions homeowners from making that assumption.
“Every time it hails, everyone thinks they’re getting a new roof, and that’s absolutely not the case.”
The age and condition of the materials, the type and extent of the damage, whether the existing materials can be repaired or matched, and the terms of the insurance policy can all affect what happens next.
That is why we inspect before we recommend.
Where Storm Damage Can Appear
- Roofing: Lifted, torn, missing or hail-damaged shingles
- Siding: Cracks, holes, dents and impact damage
- Gutters & Downspouts: Dents and other signs of hail impact
- Roof Vents & Flashing: Impact damage to exposed metal components
- Fascia & Trim: Dents or damage around rooflines and windows
- Interior Areas: Leaks, moisture stains and other signs that water has entered the home
What to Do After a Storm
Start on the Ground and Leave the Roof to a Professional
You do not need to climb onto your roof to look for storm damage. Warren strongly recommends leaving the roof inspection to a professional.
“One time a wife called and asked us to look at the roof because her husband had tried to do the inspection and had fallen off.”
Instead, start with a visual inspection from the ground. Walk around your property and look for shingles or roofing materials in the yard. From a safe distance, see if anything appears lifted or missing. Check the siding, gutters, and window trim for visible damage. On the inside, watch for new water stains or damp areas.
If you see something concerning or know a significant storm has moved through your area, call a qualified roofer. A professional inspection can identify damage that is difficult to see from the ground and unsafe to inspect yourself.
Steps To Follow After A Storm
- Walk Around Your Property
Look for fallen shingles, branches, damaged siding, dents and other visible signs that the storm affected your home. - Have the Property Professionally Inspected
If something looks damaged, or you simply are not sure, let an experienced roofer safely inspect the roof and exterior. - Document the Damage Before Making Repairs
Protect your home from active water intrusion, but when circumstances allow, avoid making permanent repairs before the damage has been properly evaluated and documented. - Decide Whether an Insurance Claim Makes Sense
Finding damage does not automatically mean you should file a claim. We explain what we found and help you determine if contacting your insurance company makes sense.
Signs You Should Have Your Home Checked
- Shingles or roofing material in the yard
- Missing or lifted shingles
- Hail large enough to damage exterior surfaces
- Dents in gutters, vents or metal trim
- Holes, cracks or dents in siding
- Tree limbs or debris that struck the home
- New interior leaks or water stains after a storm

Types of Roofing & Siding Storm Damage
Wind, Hail and Debris Can Affect Your Home in Different Ways
Wind Damage
Strong winds can loosen, lift, crease, or remove shingles. One reason wind damage can be difficult to spot is that a lifted shingle may settle back into place after the storm.
Warren explains,“Shingles may lift up, and tear underneath during a storm, then they lay back down. You can’t see this unless you walk the roof and test the shingles.”
Older roofs may be more vulnerable as roofing materials and seal strips age. Installation is a concern. And a roof that was not properly installed may be more susceptible to wind damage.
Hail Damage
Hail can damage more than shingles. Depending on the storm, it can also affect siding, gutters, vents, fascia, and window trim. Warren describes a significant hail impact on a shingle resembles “a golf ball smashed against” the material.
Hail size can matter, but it is not the only factor. The hardness of the ice, wind conditions, the age of the roof, and the materials used on the home can all affect the type and extent of damage.
Seeing a neighbor receive a new roof after a hailstorm does not mean your home has the same damage. Every property needs to be evaluated.
Tree & Debris Damage
Branches and flying debris can puncture roofing or siding, loosen materials, and create openings where water can enter.
Sometimes the damage is obvious. Other times, an impact can damage the roofing system without causing an immediate leak. A professional inspection can help determine whether the damage is limited to one area or requires a closer look at the surrounding materials.
How Roofs By Warren Helps with Storm Damage Insurance Claims
Understand Your Options Before You File a Claim
One of the first questions Warren hears after a storm is, “Will the insurance company pay for the damage?”
There is no simple answer. Coverage depends on the cause of the damage, the condition of the property, the terms of the policy, and the insurance company’s evaluation.
That is why we start with an inspection rather than immediately telling you to file a claim. If we find storm damage that may warrant an insurance claim, we document what we find, explain the damage, and help you understand what comes next.
How We Help
- Inspect & Document the Damage
We inspect the roof and exterior and photograph the storm-related damage we find. - Determine the Scope of Work
We identify the roofing, siding and other exterior components affected so the necessary work can be properly evaluated. - Work with Your Adjuster
When appropriate, we can meet the insurance adjuster at your property and show them the damage we documented. - Help You Understand the Next Step
Your insurance company determines coverage under your policy. Our job is to help you understand the roofing and siding damage, the proposed scope of work, and what is needed to properly restore your home.
Warren knows the insurance process can feel overwhelming, especially when you were not expecting the expense of a roof or siding replacement.
“Most homeowners are unsure how the claim process works,” he says.
That is exactly why we stay involved. You should not have to become a roofing and storm-damage expert just because a storm passed through your neighborhood.

Why Homeowners Choose Roofs By Warren for Storm Damage
We Inspect First Then Recommend What Your Home Actually Needs
Storm restoration can become confusing quickly. Neighbors are getting new roofs, contractors are knocking on doors, and insurance questions start piling up. It can be difficult to know where to start.
Warren keeps his approach simple, “Treat everybody like they’re your grandma.” For Roofs By Warren, that means giving homeowners the same straightforward advice we would give someone in our own family.
Our Process
- Inspect before recommending an insurance claim
- Document the damage we find
- Examine the roof, siding and other exterior surfaces
- Help coordinate with insurance adjusters when appropriate
- Use trained crews and proper installation practices
- Explain why work is being recommended
Warren also encourages homeowners to do their homework before choosing a contractor. Ask for references. Verify liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage. Find out whether the contractor pulls required permits, and ask about manufacturer training and certifications.
You can even contact your local building department to ask about contractors working in your community.
A storm can create urgency, but it should not pressure you into making a decision without understanding what your home needs.
How can I tell if my roof has storm damage?
Some signs are easy to spot, such as missing shingles, fallen branches, or roofing material in the yard. Other damage may be hidden. Wind can lift and tear shingles that later settle back into place, while hail damage can be difficult to identify from the ground. A professional roof inspection is the safest way to determine whether your home has storm damage.
Should I call my insurance company as soon as a storm passes?
Not necessarily. We recommend having the property inspected first. If we do not find storm damage that appears to warrant a claim, we will tell you. If we do find damage, we can document it and help you understand the next steps before you contact your insurance company.
Will homeowners insurance cover storm damage to my roof or siding?
Coverage depends on your policy, the cause and extent of the damage, the condition of the materials and your insurance company’s evaluation. Wind and hail damage may be covered, but an inspection does not guarantee that a claim will be approved. We document what we find and can work with your adjuster during the evaluation process.
Can hail damage my siding as well as my roof?
Yes. Hail can affect siding, gutters, fascia, window trim, vents and other exterior materials in addition to roofing. These surfaces can sometimes provide important evidence of how a storm affected the property, which is why we look beyond the roof during a storm damage inspection.
Should I climb onto my roof and check for damage myself?
No. You can learn a lot by walking around your home from the ground and looking for missing shingles, debris, damaged siding, dents or other visible changes. Roofs can be dangerous, especially after a storm. Leave the on-roof inspection to someone with the proper experience and safety equipment.
